Ableton has also added Visualiser, a feature that features 32 playable layers, offering producers a powerful tool to design and arrange the entire performance. Thus, Live not only offers the best DAW for creative use and basic recording, but it is also the best performing tool for performing live.

Ableton Live is suited for DJs, musicians and producers who primarily need to arrange drum-based tracks in a dynamic and live performance style. However, there are many other ways to use the application to create multi-layered and fully-produced tracks. It is also ideal for making songs for dance music, featuring both vocals and live instrumentation. It is also a fantastic audio recording tool, ideal for making a wide range of audio recordings. However, if your main concern is DJing, Ableton may not be the best option as it does not have the same automation and integration as the DJ software. It does, however, have a collection of features and tools aimed at the DJ, such as BPM detection, beat charting and cross-fade effects.

The Session View comes into its own when you start to load a clip of MIDI note data. This clip acts as a MIDI player for the collection of control cells. You can decide where to send these notes based on where they fit in your musical ideas, whether you’re performing on a grand scale, or on a tiny scale, or anywhere in between. The playlist of cells in your control collection is continuous, meaning that cells can be started or stopped at any time. Your live set is now an instrument, a mixer and even a part-time music sequencer. There are no restrictions on the scale of the musical ideas that can be played or recorded in Live, and many classic DAWs are already starting to feel a bit out of date and restrictive in comparison.
