I am keen for the Blender team to adopt this new LTS approach. It will save them major headaches in the future. The thing about early versions of the software is that its a bit buggy and newbie like users dont like it. They can get worried about learning a new technology with such a buggy software. Or if theres a security risk when they download the new LTS version. It will give the best possible chance for new users to learn blender. Another thing is that Blender is open source which means that if a user has a problem with it they can go off and fix it. With blender 2.80 they still have this problem. So it would be nice to for the new blender releases to be faster in development. I think this would be better for everyone.
Developers of blender have been working on this for years and finally they have decided to give users what they want. So instead of having buggy developing blender they want to give a development that is more stable and easier to use.

Blender is very well supported by the Blender Foundation, as you can see in the forum. Of course, an Open Source project is no little company, and the Blender Foundation has to look after the companies, development tasks, and 3d and VR and VR related projects. 2) If we’re looking at a 6 month development cycle, why not just work on things and release them in the 6 months that follow? I imagine that we’re not talking about a development cycle as long as Blender Studio. In that case, as long as the prior versions remain on the website, then 2.x.x are fully supported since they can still be updated in light of changes and features that come with 3.2.
3) If it’s actually in development, then there’s no need to keep 2 versions of Blender on the website and 3.2 will definitely stick with whatever numbering. There will be just one version for the LTS and the new one as it develops, like 2.7 for 2.x.x.

Well what I’d really like to do is to keep using Blender for 3.2 with all its changes; however, I run into a problem: the way Blender’s numbering works means that once they reach v3.x, the development version becomes stable and the regular supported version becomes the LTS. Thus, if I’m using a version from the 3.1 series, I can’t use the last version of the series (v3.3, v3.4, or v3.5, according to what’s released) if I want to stay on the stable version. And the same goes for any of the LTS versions.
I disagree that it means anything for LTS users. LTS is for those that want stable Blender, the version numbers for LTS users should be YY.MM.MM, not YY.MM.YY. Sounds like the re-release of the software to me. Thats what I don’t like as it is more for marketing. I would have liked to have seen YY.MM.YY and some marketing type of name for it. I understand the issue for the general public, and I wish my own projects had the naming type I personally would have liked.
Theres always something to fix in blender, not the official word though. A Blender is a tool to make 3d work, it is not a videogame or where you make what ever game engine you like (hope not to offend anyone). There are many Blenderies that have their own communities, and then there is Blender as an even bigger community with more than 1 million users and 55 000 developers.
Since the 3.0.x release, and especially since the release of 3.2.0, Blender has been suffering as a platform for developing games. This has been a large concern for developer who used to work on a game engine Blender until the developers of Blender decided to make it a game engine. Most of the major developers have been working on non-game projects like development tools, architecture and other stuff, with the game engine still the only thing they had for game development.
So, it is clear that the main issue that needs to be resolved is the game engine, but for that we need to back Blender into a platform on which games can be developed and create a trusted platform for Blender and its users to develop games. We want to do this because we already have three times as many users and developers, and we are the leading platform for making 3d projects.
This issue is something that we have been working on for a while and is now ready to release. We wanted to stop working on it for a while but there are still many changes that needed to be done before releasing it. We managed to turn all changes from being experimental into being fully integrated.
There is still the question of when exactly this will be released and how, we decided to do an alpha version first, so we can have more time to release the main version without too much work.
But, we are asking for help. If you are interested, or if you have ideas on how to add features and stability to our engine, please share your ideas at the official forums. We do not have much time right now to do a complete rewrite of the game engine, but we do not mind some help at the moment. If there are any suggestions for features that can be added to 3.0, we would love to hear about it and try to implement those features, if possible.
