Another new feature in McAfee Internet Security is an option to block annoying advertising. The system features pop-up blockers and click-to-play technology that stops music, video, and other media from playing without your permission. McAfee calls this feature Media Filter and I have to admit I like the option when I’m working remotely on my own media, but I don’t find it very useful during normal PC use.

McAfee Internet Security has an optional new feature, called Content Security. It lets the suite scan for which of the thousands of web pages that you visit it can block. You can enable content restrictions, but that comes at a price. For example, McAfee’s Content Security mechanism is not enabled on the McAfee Blog Site, and that’s not a good sign. Microsoft’s own Internet Explorer requires a digital signature for specific pages, and that keeps malware from bypassing filter mechanisms, including content security. Google will also disable certain sites if you enable Content Security. According to McAfee, the feature is based on Microsoft’s SmartScreen technology, and Google’s Safe Browsing program, but I couldn’t verify that. I know Google doesn’t want your kids seeing porn, but doesn’t need a digital signature to let you view anything else without a rush to the site’s URL blocking.
